A proposed City of Vancouver housing resolution urging the provincial and federal governments to work together to create a national housing strategy and meet the housing needs of British Colombians was almost overlooked at the recent Union of BC Municipalities convention. Vancouver City COPE Councillor Ellen Woodsworth alerted CHC to its omission. The resolution had not been tabled by the UBCM Resolutions Recommendation Committee because it was considered to be too similar to previous UBCM resolutions. Citywide Housing Coalition argued that UBCM silence was tantamount to sending senior government a message of approval. Not only that, but the motion had been endorsed by 9 other municipalities. Happily, Councillor Woodsworth had no trouble getting the resolution approved. | | | | | | | The 4th Annual Homelessness Action Week October 11 - 17 Imagine if we didn’t need a Homelessness Action Week.
